Meltdown Festival reveals its first wave of acts.
In November, the London festival announced Grace Jones as its 2020 curator. Now, the pioneering artist has unveiled the first round of acts she’s locked in for the event. Taking place at Southbank Centre on 12-21 June, performances will be helmed by Solange, Lee ‘Scratch Perry’ with Adrian Sherwood, Jimmy Cliff, Skunk Anansie, Baaba Maal, Oumou Sangaré, Meshell Ndegeocello, Lee Fields and more. The Paraorchestra will also celebrate Barry White at the event. Jones will close the festival with a performance on the last day.
“As everyone knows, I’m a collector, and I collect people, amongst other things,” Jones said on the programme. “These wonderful artists I have chosen represent something unique to me personally and to my career. From Baaba Maal to Skunk Anansie to Solange. Each one of these artists has a little bit of me in them, and now I am proud to present them all to you.”
Meltdown will feature live shows, workshops and a free programme that’s accessible to all. Previous curators include David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Nick Cave and M.I.A.
