HOME Manchester to host five performances of Poet in Da Corner

The Royal Court play hits the road.

Poet in Da Corner is set to come to HOME, Manchester from 24- 28 March 2020. Written by and starring Debris Stevenson, the semi-autobiographical play is inspired by Dizzee Rascal’s Boy in Da Corner and tells the story of a Mormon girl growing up between Essex and London whose life is transformed when she encounters the Mercury Prize-winning record. Grime MC Jammz stars as Stevenson’s best friend SS Vyper.

This spring the production will tour across The MAC, Belfast, Leicester’s Curve, Birmingham’s Repertory Theatre, the Nottingham Playhouse, Manchester’s HOME and Hackney Empire in London.

Poet in Da Corner features music and composition from Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante, co-founder and co-artistic director of hip-hop dance company Boy Blue, with design by Jacob Hughes, lighting by Anna Watson, sound by Tony Gayle and choreography by Aaron Sillis.

Poet in Da Corner the album was released on Friday 31 January 2020 on Accidental Records and features re-edited and remastered songs from the stage show.
