Launching with 28 films, including documentaries on Gil Scott-Heron, Manchester’s acid house scene, proto-punks Death and Lee Scratch Perry, the platform aims to highlight the works of independent filmmakers and “niche” documentaries at a time when cinema screens are closed.

Documentaries are available to rent on the new site, starting from £3.20 per film. The festival’s organisers are aiming to regularly update the platform with new works in the coming months. Streaming is currently only available in the UK are Ireland.

Founder Colm Forde said: “Doc’n Roll TV’s launch lineup is a hand-picked selection of under-the-radar music documentaries, most of which premiered at past editions of Doc’n Roll Film Festival. This unique video on demand platform reflects our determination to bring great music docs to a nationwide audience… and especially during these uncertain times when escapism is no longer frowned upon.”
