Bob Marley

When Bob Marley Came to Britain documents the reggae star’s relationship with Britain.

This Saturday (29 August), the BBC will broadcast a new documentary about Bob Marley’s time in Britain. Directed by Stuart Ramsay, When Bob Marley Came to Britain documents the Jamaican superstar’s time in the UK through rarely-seen archive footage and interviews with people who met and worked with Marley at the time.

The documentary examines Marley’s relationship with the UK, exploring how his presence influenced British politics and culture during a time of social and civil unrest and how “his universal message of One Love and unity helped inspire a generation of Black British youth.” The film will also document how Marley spent his free time in the UK, including visits to the UK’s growing Rastafarian community and football matches in Battersea Park (pictured above).

Among those interviewed in the documentary are photographer Dennis Morris, who accompanied Marley on tour, Aswad-founder Brinsley Ford, The Cimarons’ Locksley Gishie, reggae legend Marcia Griffiths and filmmaker, DJ and musician Don Letts.

Watch When Bob Marley Came to Britain on BBC Two this Saturday at 9:45pm.
