Robyn and Kindness celebrate Honey anniversary with remix Chic It Immediately

Robyn Kindness

Kindness, aka Adam Bainbridge, has shared their spin on Send To Robin Immediately.

Robyn‘s last full-length, Honey, turned two yesterday (26 October). Upon its release, the album marked the Swedish pop star’s return from an eight-year hiatus. In celebration of its two-year anniversary this week, Kindness has shared their remix of the album single Send To Robin Immediately. Entitled Chic It Immediately, it samples Chic’s 1978 classic I Want Your Love. Listen below.

“It’s two years since Honey!” Bainbridge said. “When I joined Robyn on tour in 2019, I’d make mixes overnight and try them in sets – there are a lot of them, Honey vs Kenlou, Honey vs Pépé Bradock, That’s Alright (Honey), She’s Got Her Own Thing She’s From Sweden, This is Robyn Speaking…. but the one which seemed to make the most sense, like it was a blessing from the gods of music, was Chic It Immediately. I remember having this brain itch that the bassline in French Kiss reminded me of something, and it turns out it was Bernard Edwards’ bassline from I Want Your Love.” [sic]

Due to Bainbridge’s sampling, the track can’t have a wider release. Played by Bainbridge whilst supporting Robyn on tour, the remix has also appeared on Robyn’s NTS mix and at a JW Anderson show.

I remember having this brain itch that the bassline in “French Kiss” reminded me of something, and it turns out it was Bernard Edwards’ bassline from “I Want Your Love”. It’s been teased by Robyn on NTS, (which was then ripped and used at a JW Anderson show), and played every night by me on the Robyn tour. And due to samples, there’s no way it could ever be released. But we’d love to share with you via Soundcloud. It’s up at soundcloud.com/kindness now! Happy Anniversary Honey ❤

Reflecting on Honey, Robyn said, “I feel lucky that I got to tour with this album before we all had to change our ways of socialising and sharing ceremonial experiences.”

“That space seems to be hijacked by social media and a chaotic stream of information right now. I’m feeling the love from all of you who are still listening to this album and it means a lot to me. I love hearing about your connection to the music. For me it’s a reminder that there are still shared experiences even though they are really hard to grasp without physical spaces to gather in and I feel fortunate to be able to feel that way.”

Honey appeared on Crack Magazine’s list: The Top 50 Albums of 2018.

Today it is two years since my album, Honey, was released. I’m happy we are celebrating it by making a @kindnessmusic remix of ‘Send To Robin Immediately’ available on Soundcloud at soundcloud.com/kindness. They made it whilst we were touring last year. Link in bio.   I feel lucky that I got to tour with this album before we all had to change our ways of socialising and sharing ceremonial experiences. Let’s keep holding a space together.   I would love to know which songs you are still listening to. Comment with your city/town and your song! 🌱
