Anzie Dasabe releases dreamy Landon Yost-directed video for Freeways

R&B singer and model Anzie Dasabe releases her first music video, and it’s a stunning visual directed by Brooklyn-based filmmaker Landon Yost. We’re premiering it on Crack Magazine today.

The airy, gorgeous new single is taken from Dasabe’s first EP, Apt 4b. Released this year, Dasabe approached the EP as her personal diary, documenting her moments of self-reflection when she lived in her first New York apartment alone. The title of the EP is the number of the apartment. On Freeways in particular, Dasabe channels her need to escape and Yost’s visual fittingly flits between scenes of empty beaches, car journeys and intimate moments. It begins with a monologue by Dasabe, set against the sound of crashing waves.

“I wanted the video to reflect the feeling of [literally] trying to put some distance in between you and your problems,” Dasabe said. “No matter how far you run you won’t be able to shake them. Distance will only provide you clarity and peace for fleeting moments. You need to face your problems head on to feel true relief.”

On the video, Landon added, “A part of me will always want to escape from my life and start over, even when things are going well. We wanted this film to let you indulge in that urge. To run away with Anzie and Hanif and begin again in a new town, free of your old demons – unless you never faced them in the first place.”
