This new book maps outs the history of 10 clubbing destinations

The 500+ page book explores the local history and club culture of cities across Europe and Africa.

Ten Cities: Clubbing in Nairobi, Cairo, Kyiv, Johannesburg, Berlin, Naples, Luanda, Lagos, Bristol, Lisbon. 1960 – March 2020 is the new book chronicling 60 years of club music and nightlife culture in 10 clubbing hotspots.

The project, which was developed in Nairobi and Berlin by Goethe-Institut, explores the “the significance of clubs as experimental fields and protected spaces”. It features contributions from a wealth of authors, music journalists, historians, record collectors and club activists. In total, there are 21 essays, alongside archive images captured by local photographers.
