Sonos Radio announce two new UK stations

Sonos have continued to expand programming for their radio platform with the addition of two new UK genre stations.

British Beats and Bars and Session Sounds are now live and have both been curated by prominent tastemakers in British music.

British Beats and Bars is curated by Jason Kavuma, better known as Scully. Scully is a writer and broadcaster who has been instrumental in the recent rise of No Signal Radio and their breakthrough #NS10v10 shows. British Beats and Bars will broadcast the best UK grime, rap, hip hop, and Afrobeats.

For Scully, an independent broadcaster and writer who has always championed the sounds of the Black British undergound, it’s a major milestone. “The whole reason why I walked down my career path was really due to my love of finding new, exciting music and sharing that with people. I feel part of my purpose is to do my best in representing Black music and its culture, specifically from the UK.”

Session Sounds is curated by Kwake Bass, a South London musician and musical director who has collaborated with artists as wide-ranging as Mica Levi, MF Doom, Joey BadA$$ and Sampha. He’s also the founder of London rehearsal space The Room Studios. His curated station will showcase the country’s fast-growing class of artists creating jazz-inspired soul, hip hop, and electronica.

Speaking of the venture, Kwake promises a walk-through the sounds driving the country forward. “I think of Session Sounds as an invitation to a vibey, guided tour throughout London and the other regions. This station is where you can connect the dots and reflect on the influence of a new UK jazz culture through compelling, experimental artists and musicians shaping the new ‘instrumentation’ scene.”

Further local-focused stations have been announced for Germany, France and the Netherlands. Read the full breakdown of the stations here.
