Bandcamp have offered an update on their Bandcamp Friday initiative.
On the first Friday of every month since March, they’ve waived their revenue share to help artists who have been impacted by the pandemic. Yesterday (15 December), they announced that this scheme would be extended until May 2021. They also revealed that so far the initiative has put over $40 million in the hands of independent artists and labels.
Fans paid artists $40 million during the nine Bandcamp Fridays we held this year. Big thanks to everyone who participated, here’s what we’re doing in 2021: https://t.co/0KcZi3LKOj

“Over the course of these nine days,” they wrote in their announcement, “fans paid artists and labels $40 million dollars, helping cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and much more. If you’re among the nearly 800,000 fans who participated, thank you.”
“Although vaccines are starting to roll out, it will likely be several months before live performance revenue starts to return. So we’re going to continue doing Bandcamp Fridays in 2021, on February 5th, March 5th, April 2nd, and May 7th.”
Our audio platform, crackaud.io, partnered with the platform earlier in the year on a series of mixes built entirely from tracks which are buyable on the platform. Revisit those mixes here.
