The documentary charts the recording process behind Charli’s how i’m feeling now LP.
Charli XCX‘s quarantine documentary is premiering at this year’s virtual SXSW film festival. The project is titled Alone Together and documents the recording process behind Charli’s self-described quarantine album how i’m feeling now. Plus, the emotions and feelings that “creating, connecting and living in a quarantine and in basically a new world evokes for people across the globe,” explained Charli in a recent Instagram post.
The film was directed by Bradley & Pablo, who also helmed Charli’s 2099 and Vroom Vroom visuals. Bradley & Pablo have worked on videos for Rosalia, Harry Styles and more.
Charli first announced the documentary back in the summer. Speaking to Variety about the project at the time, Charli said, “I don’t think I’ve ever made music in such a unique situation: being so logistically far apart from my collaborators, but going through exactly the same thing, writing songs about my relationship with my boyfriend sitting in the next room, and being so connected to my fans in such an intense and creative way, it felt quite overwhelming and heartwarming all at the same time. So I wanted to film it all.”
“Why not add to the pressure of making an extremely personal album within a five-week timeline by putting a load of cameras in my face and zooming in on my personality and insecurities too??! You know???”
Alone Together will debut at SXSW’s virtual film festival on 18 March. In the meantime, revisit our 2019 documentary on Charli in the player above.
