Nick Cave and Warren Ellis release new surprise album ‘Carnage’

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have shared a brand new album.

The new record, entitled Carnage, is out now, with a vinyl and CD release landing on 28 May.

According to a press release, the album was “recorded over a period of weeks during lockdown.” Nick Cave described the album as, “a brutal but very beautiful record nested in a communal catastrophe.” Meanwhile, Ellis reflected “Making Carnage was an accelerated process of intense creativity, the eight songs were there in one form or another within the first two and a half days.”

While they have worked together for many years with Warren a long-standing member of the Bad Seeds, this is their first record as a duo. They have also recorded as Grinderman and composed film, TV and theatre soundtracks together.

Cave first teased the new record back in January in a letter shared on his Red Hand Files website. In a response to fan, who wondered how Cave’s lockdown was going, the artist mentioned the LP title and wrote, “I did go into the studio – with Warren – to make a record.”
