Balearic pioneer DJ Alfredo launches crowdfunder following a stroke

The Argentina-born artist has battled health problems and a loss of work during the pandemic.

Balearic icon DJ Alfredo, aka Alfredo Fiorito, has started a crowdfunder. It’s been launched to help towards his living costs and supporting his family following a recent stroke and his loss of income over the last year due to the pandemic.

Fiorito had aimed to raise €25,000, however donations from fans and followers of the artist have already surpassed this target. At present, over €26,000 has been raised.

“Dear friends, with a heavy heart I come to ask for your help,” explains Alfredo on his GoFundMe page. “This last year has been a disaster for so many of us, I have had no work or income for almost a year and recently suffered a stroke which has affected my health, and like many in the music world my situation is very bad. I can no longer pay my rent or support my family and so I humbly ask if you can help with your donations so I can keep going.”

“At the same time I want to start a project in which I can give something back to all my supporters through my history in the world of music and nightlife: mixes, posters, music and all the work I’ve done for over 30 years, sharing that work with you, and so open a channel where everyone can participate. Thank you.”

Argentina-born Fiorito moved to Ibiza in 1976. He’s played a pivotal role in the growth of dance music’s popularity on the island ever since. DJs including Paul Oakenfold, Nicky Holloway and Danny Rampling have been inspired by Fiorito’s pioneering Balearic beat style and his residencies at venues such as Amnesia.
