Rewire announces first wave of names for 2021 edition

The festival has unveiled the first 36 artists and projects taking part in its next instalment.

Rewire returns this May with a new online edition. Today (11 March), the festival shared the first wave of artists and projects locked in for the upcoming event.

As part of its online edition, Rewire is welcoming a series of remote residencies into its programme. The likes of Yasuaki Shimizu and Kara-Lis Coverdale, as well as Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe and Zeena Parkins were invited to collaborate on new pieces. Musicians were also invited to work with video artists or filmmakers on original audiovisual projects. Duma and Jesse KandaDreamcrusher and Andrés Baro, and CS + Kreme and Alessandra Leone are among the confirmed audiovisual pairings. 

Elsewhere, several tech-driven, interactive collaborative projects between developers, game designers and coders, and musicians and composers, have been announced. A string of reworked, specially recorded or world premiere performances from artists such as Lee Gamble, Smerz and Aïsha Devi & 118 present SLF have also been unveiled. 

Rewire’s theme for 2021 is ‘(Re)setting’. The festival will address this through a series of talks, workshops and meditations, with Rewire 2021 offering “a moment of pause, to reflect on our contemporary arrangements.”
