The Rubika Shah-directed documentary, which explores the formation of organisation Rock Against Racism, will be screened during Supporters Week.
It’s been a year since we launched Supporters: a membership package that’s helped us to continue throughout the pandemic. For 2021, we’re introducing Supporters Week – seven days of screenings and talks, curated exclusively for Supporters. A free 30-day pass is available now.
Supporters Week kicks off today (22 March). As part of our Supporters Week programme, we’re screening the 2020-released documentary White Riot on 23 March. The documentary will be available to watch for 48 hours.
Sparked by the troubling rise of fascism in late 70s Britain, photographer and activist Red Saunders founded Rock Against Racism – a series of demonstrations and free concerts to stand up against the far right extremism propelled by the National Front. By joining the powerful cultural forces of punk, new wave and reggae, White Riot, directed by British-Australian filmmaker Rubika Shah, features The Clash’s Mick Jones and Joe Strummer, Sham69, the Tom Robinson Band and more. The documentary, in all its energising rebellion, captures a compelling snapshot of a grassroots political movement whose potency is still felt today.
