The Viking thriller is directed by Robert Eggers.

Robert Eggers’ Viking movie The Northman will premiere next year. The revenge saga stars Icelandic artist Björk, who will appear as the ‘Slav Witch’ in the The Lighthouse and The Witch director’s next movie. The Northman also stars the likes of Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke and Alexander Skarsgård. The latter takes on the lead role of Amleth, a Viking prince on a mission to avenge his father’s death. Björk’s daughter Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney will also have a role in the film, which is set in 10th-century Iceland.

Björk’s role in The Northman marks her first major film appearance since 2000’s Dancer In the Dark. The former Crack Magazine cover star’s involvement in the new movie was teased last summer.

The Northman will premiere on 8 April 2022. Focus Features is set to release the film in the US, while Universal will be releasing it internationally. The film’s screenplay was written by Eggers alongside Icelandic writer Sjón, who has collaborated with Björk on tracks like Cosmogony, Jóga and Oceania.

Speaking on the new movie in an interview with IndieWire last year, Eggers said: “The scale is so huge and there are so many more locations and things that I couldn’t do everything or know every prop myself. That’s been a challenge with the new movie.”
