D3U5E releases Constantine // Spence-directed video for track Free Mars

The London producer’s new visual premieres today (11 May) on Crack Magazine.

D3U5E and Gav have a debut EP on the way. The system-rattling project – entitled Subterra Highway – has been dubbed a “tribute to conspiracy theories, obsession and corporate illusion”. The EP is comprised of two collaborative offerings (Mutant, Of The Gods) as well as two solo tracks (Free Mars, Factor 19) from D3U5E. Subterra Highway is the second EP to land via south London’s Programm. D3U5E previously featured on the label’s inaugural release

Ahead of the EP’s release later this month, D3U5E is sharing a gripping visual for project’s opener Free Mars. The new glitchy new video follows a lone man as he “dives into an internet hole, befriending an online community of whistleblowers and truth seekers”. He can be seen running and dancing in tunnels and arches in a dimly-lit central London.

The visual comes from Constantine // Spence, a film and photography duo who’ve been creating together since 2017. It’s a harmonious pairing between producer and directors, what with Constantine // Spence drawing music, DIY aesthetics and other pop culture references into their world-building approach wherever possible. The pair have previously worked with Gucci, Bottega Veneta, i-D and more. Graphic designer and art director Alfie Allen also worked on the new video. He also designed the EP’s sleeve.

“We wanted to make a video that felt like a journey,” explain the directors over email. “We wanted to have a central character who we could build a visual world around and narrative. For us the video is about the dangers of overexposure to information and also the joy when one disconnects and it’s one their own.”

They add: “The music is meant for dark dingy clubs – sweaty and visceral – we wanted to include those themes in the video – those which recently have been so absent.”

Programm will release Subterra Highway on 28 May. Pre-order the EP here and watch the Free Mars video in the player above.
