“Watch me try acting!”
Grimes made a surprise cameo on US comedy show Saturday Night Live this weekend (8 May). The artist joined partner Elon Musk – who was this week’s host – in a Super Mario-themed courtroom sketch. Grimes and Musk have been in a relationship since 2018 and recently celebrated their son X Æ A-XII‘s first birthday.
In the sketch, Grimes took on the role of Super Mario character Princess Peach while Musk acted as the villainous Wario. Musk’s character was on trial for the murder of Mario. However, Wario’s defence attorney (played by SNL‘s Micky Day) outed Mario’s brother Luigi (played by fellow SNL-er Kyle Mooney) for his secret affair with Princess Peach. This week’s musical guest was Miley Cyrus.
The Miss Anthropocene artist teased her cameo on Instagram prior to the episode’s airing. Grimes wrote, “Tune into SNL tonight to watch me try acting!”
