The Portuguese festival returns this October.

Semibreve has announced the first wave of acts booked to play its 2021 event. The festival’s 11th edition will take place in various locations across Braga, Portugal from 29 to 31 October. For 2021, Semibreve has locked in a selection of artists and musicians who’ve graced previous editions and tasked them with presenting new works, collaborations and exclusive festival commissions.

The festival’s first artist announcement features seven world premiere performances. Flora Yin-Wong and American composer Yvette Janina Jackson have been confirmed, with the former presenting a multichannel electronic piece and the latter producing a work for electronics and cello that will be performed live by Judith Hamman. Elsewhere, experimental producer Laurel Halo and cellist Oliver Coates will link up for their first stage collaboration. The likes of Zeena Parkins, André Gonçalves, Klara Lewis, Nik Void and Pedro Maia have also been confirmed. The festival is also collaborating with Portuguese collectives Mera and Turva. Both will present audio visual sessions designed exclusively for the event.

Due to the pandemic and Covid-19 public health rules, Semibreve will be complying with local social distancing measures, while also reducing audience capacity at each show, presentation or event. Due to this, full access to the 2021 programme will be limited to those who purchased general passes for the 2020 edition. Additional tickets will be made available closer to the festival if rules and regulations allow.
