The nine-track album is slated for release this October via Kranky.

Grouper will release a new album, Shade, later this year. The forthcoming album was announced yesterday (27 July) and leads with a new single entitled Unclean Mind. The tracks featured on Shade were recorded by Grouper, aka Oregon-based musician Liz Harris, over the past 15 years. Some were recorded during recent sessions in Astoria, others were created during a residency on Mount Tamalpais, and a selection were made in Portland years ago.

In our review of Harris’ last Grouper full-length, 2018’s Grid of Pointswe said: “Absence and understatement have always been favourite tools of Harris’, and in Grid of Points she deploys them to full effect. A sense of loss pervades throughout, but somehow, the album is also a strangely feel-good release – one that resonates with quiet, compelling confidence.”

Kranky will release Shade on 22 October. Listen to Unclean Mind below.
