Kanye West to release new album Donda this Friday

West’s tenth studio album, which is named after his late mother, was due to land last summer.

Kanye West is reportedly releasing his long-awaited album Donda this week. A new Beats ad starring America’s fastest woman, Sha’Carri Richardson, dropped last night (20 July) during game six of the NBA finals. The advert is soundtracked by a new Kanye West song entitled No Child Left Behind. The advert, which credits Kanye as the artist behind its score, shares the name of the track and also reveals that a Donda listening party will take place on Thursday (22 July) at 8pm (EST).

The listening party, which is set to take place in-person at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, will be livestreamed globally via Apple Music. Watch the new advert and hear the new track below.

In a Twitter post, West’s label Def Jam confirmed that the album was indeed on its way and due to be released on Friday. Read the full Def Jam statement below.

Earlier this week, West returned to Instagram. He shared a series of close-up images of his neck adorned in chains featuring the names of his four children with former partner Kim Kardashian. He also shared the new advert. New rumours surrounding the release of Donda began to circulate last week after the rapper and producer was spotted in the studio with Tyler, the Creator. In an Instagram video of the two artists, a whiteboard with what appears to be an album tracklist can be spotted in the background.

Donda, which is named after West’s late mother, is set to be the follow-up to his 2019 gospel album Jesus Is King. In our review of album, we said: “Jesus Is King is ultimately the sound of a man hiding behind God. Kanye may well be born again, but it will take much more than this album to resurrect his reputation.”

In 2018 we attended the album launch event for West and Kid Cudi’s collaborative full-length Kids See Ghosts. Revisit our review here.
