Radiohead and The Smile bandmates Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have contributed original material to the forthcoming season of Peaky Blinders.

In a new interview with NME, director Anthony Byrne confirmed that the pair have written new music for the BBC period drama’s sixth and final season, which premieres on Sunday (27 February).

“Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood contributed some original stuff,” said Byrne. “I’m over the moon about all of that. The music has always been really important historically, and I was really keen to bring a dramatic score into it. We’re using that much more in this season. It’s a much heavier season so the score is taking things in a very different direction.”

Music has long played a vital party in the hit show, which stars the likes of Cillian Murphy and Joe Cole. The late Helen McCrory also starred in previous seasons. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ Red Right Hand is used as the show’s theme song.

Elsewhere, Anna Calvi, who recently appeared on a Crack Magazine podcast episode alongside acclaimed filmmaker Joanna Hogg, penned the original score for the show’s fifth season. She’s also behind the score for the forthcoming season. This time around, she’s joined by Bad Seeds producer Nick Launay.
