Bassist and vocalist for The xx, Oliver Sim launches his solo career today (10 March) with debut single Romance With a Memory.

In an Instagram post yesterday (9 March) Sim, who is one third of The xx alongside Romy Madley-Croft and Jamie xx, announced the release of his first solo offering. He also shared a snippet of the track, which was produced by his bandmate Jamie xx.

In a statement, Sim said: “I’m thrilled, excited, ecstatic, over-caffeinated and overjoyed to be sharing Romance With a Memory with you all.”

“Terrifyingly, this is the first song I’ve ever released under my own name, I really hope you all enjoy it,” he added. “Produced by my dear older brother Jamie xx. P.S still very much in a loving and happy relationship/band with Romy and Jamie.”

On the accompanying lyric video, which features artists and drag performers Charity Kase, HoSo Terra Toma and Gena Marvin, Sim shared: “I’ve made a compilation of some of my favourite monsters, killers and queers getting down to Romance With a Memory. I hope both the music and monsters make you feel as happy as they make me.”
