Grammys 2022: Tyler, the Creator, Baby Keem and Ukraine’s president

The 64th Grammy Awards was held last night (4 April).

Originally scheduled to take place on 31 January, the postponed awards ceremony took place in Las Vegas with Tyler, the Creator, Arooj Aftab, Kendrick Lamar and Doja Cat among this year’s winners.

Arooj Aftab took home the award for Best Global Music Performance, making her the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy. Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem won Best Rap Performance for Family Ties whilst Doja Cat and SZA were awarded Best Pop/Duo Performance for their track Kiss Me More. Tyler, the Creator won Best Rap Album for his 2021 release Call Me If You Get Lost.

Elsewhere, St Vincent won Best Alternative Music Album for Daddy’s Home. Kanye West took home two awards, winning Best Rap Song with Jay-Z for Jail and Best Melodic Rap Performance for Hurricane along with The Weeknd and Lil Baby. Popstar Olivia Rodrigo was also awarded multiple Grammys, winning Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album.

The awards ceremony also featured a performance from Billie Eilish who wore a Taylor Hawkins t-shirt, paying tribute to the late Foo Fighters’ drummer. Watch footage of Eilish sing Happier Than Ever with her brother Finneas O’Connell below.

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, also made an appearance. In a pre-taped video presented during the ceremony, Zelensky made a plea for support. “What is more opposite to music?” he said. “The silence of ruined cities and killed people.”
