This year’s New Blood Awards feature 17 briefs across a number of different disciplines, including advertising, animation, PR, typography and more.

The awards exist as an opportunity to showcase the next wave of creative talent to D&AD’s global creative community. It’s also a great way to build up a portfolio, and practice answering real creative briefs for brands.

Entrants have the opportunity to win a D&AD Pencil, be featured across D&AD’s channels, have a chance to join D&AD’s New Blood Academy and be featured in their annual publication which showcases the work of creatives across the globe. Participating brands include: Heinz, Duolingo, Barclays, eBay, Google, IMAX, Penguin, SKY and more.

2023’s edition aims for accessibility, with no formal education or paid experience required. Applicants who take part in D&AD’s research survey, sharing their educational and creative experiences will also not have to pay the £15 administration fee to enter the competition. The results of the survey will be published as part of the company’s creative insight report for 2024. Yellow and White pencil winners are automatically eligible  for the Black Pencil, voted on by industry leaders, an award which comes with a share of a £2,000 prize fund shared among winners.

Speaking about the Black pencil, Naresh Ramchandani, former Creative Director of Pentagram said: “The New Blood Awards Black Pencil represents a new generation showing the people in the creative industry what’s new, what’s relevant and showing them the way.”

Previous winners of the awards have gone on to work in major agencies and studios around the world in roles such as creative directors, designers, copywriters, illustrators, strategists and more, including becoming agency founders and consultants for global brands.

D&AD have shared a number of helpful guides featuring advice from creatives and designers to aid participants in delivering interesting creative work for the competition. These are available both via D&AD’s website alongside their social media channels.
