Forecast shares open call for mentorship programme

The interdisciplinary mentorship platform has opened applications for its 2023-2024 cohort.

Forecast offers artists and creatives across the world the opportunity to work with mentors to bring their projects to fruition. In addition to developing their project with an accomplished mentor, successful applicants will present their work at Forecast Festival in spring 2024 at Berlin’s Radialsystem.

For the eighth edition of the programme, six new mentors have been announced, with a focus this year on engaging “with practices that highlight the autonomy of creative endeavors and emphasize the significance of independent artmaking in the deeply politicized climate of contemporary cultural production and its reception.”

The mentors – working across different creative disciplines – for the 2023-2024 programme are South African poet and academic Gabeba Baderoon, multi-instrumentalist and drummer Greg Fox and Roee Rosen, who is an artist, filmmaker, and writer. The other three mentors for this year are Ukranian photographer Mila Teshaieva, whose work focuses on constructed identities, fashion designer Irakli Rusadze, who is the co-founder and creative director of Tbilisi-based fashion brand SITUATIONIST, and Japanese performance artist Yuya Tsukahara, who co-founded improvisational performance collective contact Gonzo.

Speaking on Forecast, Germany’s Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth said, “This international mentorship program again proves that encouraging strong artistic visions is worthwhile not only because doing so lays the foundations for future careers, but also because it allows creativity to flourish. This approach effectively facilitates talent by applying a global model spanning all regions of the world while also providing targeted, personal support. Mentoring here means focusing attention on each individual and their aims, interests, skills, and specific approaches. With its mentorship program, Forecast opens up space and provides access, letting creativity take center stage and forging uncomplicated, direct human connections.”

The deadline for applications is 11.59pm CET on 26 February. Head to the Forecast website to apply.
