The 98 Art Collective presents new exhibition in New York this weekend

The immersive one night pop-up exhibition will be held in an East Village firehouse tomorrow (18 February).

98 Release is a new show curated and produced by The 98 Art Collective. Showcasing the work of 25 experimental artists from around the world, the exhibition is an immersive and interactive one night event featuring live performances and a mixture of traditional and multimedia art made in response to the question, “what does release mean to our generation?”. The exhibition uses rainfall as a central metaphor for release to explore this concept.

In keeping with the rainfall theme and visual metaphor, the show will feature clouds suspended from the firehouse ceiling and a fog spreading across the room with a live jazz ensemble presenting an interpretation of a storm.

Speaking on the exhibition, the collective’s founder and creative director Mallika Chandaria said, “98 Release aims to imbue the traditional art gallery space with theatricality and movement. You will enter a sensorial playground whose aim is to provoke reflection, discussion, and ultimately catharsis”.

The 98 Art Collective is an immersive production company founded in the 1990s. They have held shows in cities across the world including San Francisco, Paris, London, Boston, and New York, and are known for creating atmospheric and immersive gallery exhibitions.

98 Release takes place on 18 February from 7pm to 11pm (PST) at The Firehouse, 87 Lafayette Street, New York.
