Charli XCX and Jack Antonoff are working on original songs for A24’s new pop film Mother Mary

The Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway-starring movie has been described as “an epic pop melodrama”.

Charli XCX is working with Jack Antonoff on original songs for a forthcoming A24 film directed by David Lowery. Entitled Mother Mary, the upcoming movie – which stars Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel – is based on a script written by Lowery, Deadline reports. The film is said to be centred around Hathaway’s character, a fictional musician, and her relationship with with a famous fashion designer, played by Coel.

Antonoff and Crash star XCX will write and produce songs for the film – which will also have an original score composed by Daniel Hart, who also contributed the score to Lowery’s 2021 film The Green Knight, another A24 collaboration.

Last year, XCX provided the official theme song to the indie studio’s 2022 movie Bodies Bodies Bodies – the George Daniels co-produced Hot Girl. Back in February, the former Crack Magazine and Collections cover story discussed new music, returning to old inspirations and future plans in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald. She also linked-up with Daniels for a hit remix of Caroline Polachek’s Welcome to My Island.
