Proceeds from the album will be split between The Black Curriculum and Blackfriars Settlement.

Síbín Vol. 1 is a new charity compilation featuring a series of exclusive collaborations between different artists. The release helmed by artist, DJ and curator Anja Ngozi and Lexy Morvaridi – who also produced Untitled (18 Artists), a collaborative album and youth engagement project the pair previously worked on together.

For the release, the artists involved – which includes Wu-Lu, Mica Levi, Tirzah, Fatima, KwAkE and Goya Gumbani – were asked to respond to the question, ‘What does identity mean to you?’. The project centres a community approach via its collaborative essence, something which is extended to the accompanying fanzine that will also be released soon alongside the album. The zine will feature contributions across visual poetry, photography, artwork and design from the likes of Emma Warren, Belinda Zhawi – aka MA.MAYO, who also contributed to the compilation – Annie Tobin and Brother Portrait.

Profits from Síbín Vol.1 album will be donated to both The Black Curriculum and Blackfriars Settlement. The former is a UK-based social enterprise working to embed the teaching of Black British History within the national curriculum. Whilst Southwark organisation Blackfriars Settlement has been working within the local community in the north of the London borough for over 130 years.

“Síbín Vol. 1 is an attempt to highlight some of the amazing individuals in the creative community at this time,” Ngozi said of the project. “I also wanted to show the importance of community and collaboration. As amazing as we are as individuals there’s also another power that comes from working together and acting from a community mindset.”

There is also a vinyl campaign for the release via Bandcamp which you can pledge to support. Listen to the compilation – which is out now via Ngozi’s label – below.
