Jaguar launches new documentary on gender disparities in UK dance music

The two-part podcast feature will be available to listen to from tomorrow (8 March).

DJ, journalist and radio broadcaster Jaguar has shared a new documentary which gives a platform to women, trans and non-binary people within dance music to share their experiences. Entitled Under The Lights: Being a Woman, Trans or Non-Binary Person in UK Dance Music the two-part podcast documentary includes contributions from Jamz Supernova, Annie Mac, The Blessed Madonna and TAAHLIAH. Other people sharing their stories include Jaye Ward, Girls Don’t Sync, salute and DJ Priya.

The documentary is being released tomorrow to coincide with International Women’s Day and will be available to listen to via UTOPIA Talks – part of Jaguar’s cross-disciplinary platform that she launched in 2020.

Speaking on the documentary, Jaguar said, “I’m incredibly proud to be bringing out these podcast episodes with Stak this International Women’s Day! Since 2020 I’ve been on a journey where I’ve found my purpose: to champion minorities and give opportunities to those who really need it. I want to use my platform to help people and explore how we can create positive changes to reach a utopian world. Equality and representation is so important to me. It’s part of my identity, as a mixed race and queer woman navigating the world.”

Last year, Jaguar published an extensive report highlighting gender disparity within dance music through her eponymous foundation – which she set up to help create greater equality in electronic music for the next generation. The east London based broadcaster has also just launched the label arm of UTOPIA, with the debut release being Can’t Grumble by Scottish artist Van Damn.
