Frank Ocean’s long-anticipated Coachella performance is currently underway, and just saw an appearance from Paris-based DJ, producer and writer Crystallmess. The artist took over for a remix-heavy mix during what appeared to be an intermission portion of the show, which is not being live streamed via the official Coachella YouTube channels, with fans instead watching from home via live steams supplied by those in the crowd. News of the set not being officially streamed arrived late on Sunday evening (16 April) local time.

During the set, which opened with Coachella-referencing favourite Novacane, Ocean confirmed there is a new album in the works – but its official announcement and release will not be timed with his appearance at the festival, where he was due to originally headline back in 2020 before the event was cancelled due to the pandemic. “I’m not here because of a new album, not that there’s not a new album – just not right now.”

Check out some fan reactions to the “rave mix” – as Ocean dubbed it – below.

While talking to the crowd, Ocean explained that he “wanted to bring a little bit” of his PrEP+ club night – hosted in New York in 2019, and featuring the likes of Sherelle, Arca, Vegyn, Last Japan and Sango – to the show.
