Tina Turner has died, aged 83

The legendary soul and rock singer passed away earlier today (24 May) in her home in Switzerland.

Tina Turner has died. Her passing was confirmed in a statement from representatives for the late star, which read: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

“There will be a private funeral ceremony attended by close friends and family,” the statement continues, “Please respect the privacy of her family at this difficult time.”

One of the world’s most famous voices with a career spanning over six decades – not forgetting one of the best-selling recording artists of all time – Turner’s hits included songs like Proud Mary, What’s Love Got to Do With It and The Best. She was renowned for her vivacious live performances and stage presence.

Tributes have already begun to pour in for the late artist, born Anna Mae Bullock in Brownsville, Tennessee. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.
