There’s a new album on the way from Manchester-based artist Samrai.

Entitled Work & Roti, it’s out on 30 June via a new label from the DJ, publisher and producer called Sangha Industries. The eight-track release features a slew of collaborators including SCAPA, Vindya, Shanique Marie, Gavsborg and Samrai’s own mother – whose maiden name inspired the imprint’s title. The album’s title is also inspired by a conversation between Samrai – AKA Balraj Samrai – and his mother. The project has been described as one grounded by the inclusion of South Asian percussion and rhythms.

The album, announced on Thursday (8 June), led with May-released single Oil Money featuring LINTD and Raheel Khan. This week, a pair of new singles were released: Create Your Own Bless featuring Fox and Dirty Dirty with Thai-Chi Rosè. Check those out below.

Last year, Samrai co-founded a Manchester-focused music publication entitled SEEN alongside journalist Kamila Rymajdo and Tunde Adekoya, the artistic director of Big People Music. Prior to that, Samrai was best known as the co-founder of Swing Ting – the club label, party and production duo that came to an end after 13 years in early 2022.
