The Knife’s Olof Dreijer signs to Hessle Audio, releases new single Rosa Rugosa

The Swedish producer and musician’s first solo release since 2009 arrives today (27 June) via the UK label.

Olof Dreijer has signed to Hessle Audio. The artist, previously one half of duo The Knife alongside Fever Ray, has released a new single entitled Rosa Rugosa via the imprint, which is helmed by Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound. Tune into Rosa Rugosa below.

Speaking on the solo release in a press release, Dreijer said: “I’m very happy to be back making music again after some time doing other things… I’m surprised to see how much fun I’m having making my own music after a longer period of working on other people’s projects.” Dreijer later added: “I’ve been trying to make some colourful, energetic music with emotional melodies. I hope there is room for that out on the dancefloors.”

In 2021, Hessle Audio’s Ben UFO contributed to an artist-curated 12” mini compilation series entitled Melodies Record Club, selecting a track from Dreijer, 2009’s Echoes from Mamori, for his release. More recently, Dreijer teamed up with artist Mt. Sims for a collaborative EP entitled Souvenir, which was released earlier this month. Elsewhere, Dreijer has spent the last few years working alongside musicians and teaching music production. The likes of Houeida Hedfi and Zhala are among his most recent collaborators. He’s also remixed for the likes of Robyn and Röyksopp.

Last year, Hessle Audio celebrated its 15th anniversary. We marked the occasion with a landmark cover story and a first-of-its-kind mix, alongside a feature starring a slew of label friends and mainstays, including Anz, Beatrice Dillion and Mary Anne Hobbs.
