The artist announced her seventh album via her official newsletter.

Mitski is releasing a new album entitled The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We. The former Crack Magazine cover star revealed the album and its title in a newsletter sent to fans over the weekend (23 July).

A voice memo from Mitski was included in the newsletter, with the musician sharing: “Hi, this is Mitski, and I’m at Bomb Shelter Studios in Nashville, where we recorded my new album that’s coming out. It’s called The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, and its first single is coming out on Wednesday.” A release date for the upcoming album has yet to be announced, neither has the title for the lead single.

The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We will serve as the follow-up to Laurel Hell, which was released in early 2022. In our review of the record, we said: “But even on Laurel Hell’s more heartbreaking new wave belters, Mitski contrasts her flair for melodrama with a matter-of-fact nonchalance that’s far from the pleading of Your Best American Girl or Lonesome Love. Here, Mitski turns away from her unruly rage and faces herself instead.”
