CDR and Saffron team up for new series of artist talks

The two non-profit organisations are collaborating for the first time to host talks from Yushh, Grove and Shanti Celeste.

CDR – aka Create. Define. Release. – and Saffron have announced three free-to-attend events in Bristol this autumn which will see each of the artists take part in an in-depth, production-focussed conversation delving into their career and creative process. The talks will be held at Dareshack and Love Inn.

The first talk on 13 September comes from Pressure Dome label founder and producer Yushh, who released her debut EP Look Mum No Hands via Wisdom Teeth earlier this year and featured as our Rising artist in Issue 141 of Crack Magazine in March. Following this, in October Grove will be in conversation following the release of their latest release P*W*R and a busy summer of festivals across the UK and Europe.

Rounding off the series, the November instalment will feature DJ, producer and singer Shanti Celeste – who also runs the label Peach Discs. In addition to the talks, each session will include ‘OpenCDR’, which is a DJ set of audience music submissions giving people the opportunity to hear their work – which can be rough demos to final masters – on a club soundsystem.

Speaking on working with CDR, Saffron’s Lizzy Ellis says, “We’ve got some great talent lined up for these sessions and we’re mega excited to be working on them with CDR. Our musical outlook and missions are so aligned, that it feels natural to do this, bringing our communities and expertise together. It is an honour to be invited to collaborate!”

“We’re so excited to partner with a kindred organisation like Saffron to advance our shared mission of expanding access to music making,” CDR founder and director Tony Nwachukwu adds. “Their work continues to be vital in moving towards gender equality in the music tech space, which is still heavily
male dominated. They’ve built an amazing community in Bristol and further afield and we can’t wait to kick off what will hopefully be the first of many joint endeavours.”
