There’s a new fashion-focused exhibition open at London’s Somerset House. Entitled The Morgan Stanley Exhibition: The Missing Thread – Untold Stories of Black British Fashion, the new show will spotlight Black British fashion, and chart its evolution from the 1970s up until the present day.
Broken down into four themes – nightlife, performance, tailoring and home – the new show will cover a broad scope of designers and design innovations from the last five decades. Each theme will showcase how fashion has developed as well as creative artworks, cultural artefacts, music, memorabilia, videos and installations, positioning fashion within a wider cultural and socio-political context.

The archive of late designer Joe Casely-Hayford, who died in 2019, will be presented for the first time in the UK in exhibition format at the central London gallery and complex. Visitors will also be able to take in original commissions by a number of contemporary Black designers, including Nicholas Daley – who is featured in our September 2023 print issue – Bianca Saunders (pictured) and Saul Nash.
