The music production workshops will take place online over the next few months and are open to women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people worldwide.
Saffron and Black Artist Database (B.A.D.) are collaborating on three workshops. As part of Saffron’s regular Tech Dissect series – which is included in their digital member’s club – the B.A.D. residency will feature creators from the platform’s network hosting the sessions.
Kicking off on 31 January, multidisciplinary artist Coco Em will host an introduction to Ableton Live workshop. This will draw on the Nairobi-based musician’s Sim Sima programme, a collective and label – alongside previous Worldwide FM show – she runs, exploring the musical potential of using the software.
The next workshop, taking place in February, comes from another Nairobi-based artist; [M] will present a session on music coding using Sonic Pi. Their workshop will explore how the free and open-source synthesizer and software can be used to communicate with Ableton Live.
Finally, the third workshop in B.A.D. and Saffron’s collaborative series will come from B.A.D. co-founder NIKS. This one will focus on how to structure a track, looking at compartmentalising parts of the production process and how to maximise each section.
These sessions are aimed at supporting individuals of all experience levels. They will take place over Zoom, with each session starting at 7.30pm (GMT) and running for 90 minutes. Participants aren’t required to have any prior Ableton Live experience. Head to Saffron’s website for further information.
