Detroit music icon Rick ‘The Godson’ Wilhite launches fundraiser following neuropathy diagnosis

Money will cover the 3 Chairs member’s “medical expenses to day-to-day responsibilities”, having cancelled all gigs for the foreseeable future.

Detroit electronic music icon Rick ‘The Godson’ Wilhite has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to contribute towards his medical expenses following a neuropathy diagnosis.

In the fundraiser’s description, he explained that he was diagnosed following an “unfortunate accident” and has undergone the first round of treatment. Funds raised will go towards his medical expenses and living costs.

Wilhite has cancelled all of his gigs for the “foreseeable future”, but his residencies – Beautiful Sunday at Motor City Wine and 5th Thursdays at Friends – will go on with his slot being filled with “special guest DJs”.

He wrote: “Late last month, through an unfortunate accident, I suffered severe burns to my feet. While being treated, I was diagnosed with neuropathy.

“My mobility is minimal, and I am in substantial pain. But I’m grateful,” he continued. “From medical expenses to day-to-day responsibilities, I have quite a road ahead of me, and I’m asking for your financial support. I thank you all for your love and support over the years as I work toward complete and total wellness.”

A veteran of the Motor City’s scene who has been involved in the industry for over three decades, Wilhite first began remixing records as part of group NASA in 1986 and has since DJ’d and produced under several aliases including DOC, Working Mixx, The Godson and Tech-12. He is also part of the 3 Chairs collective alongside Marcellus Pittmann, Kenny Dixon Jr. and Theo Parrish.
