Acting as Musical Director for the brand’s Spring 2025 Ready-to-Wear show in Milan, Hynes played the soundtrack live on piano
Marni once again called on musician Devonté Hynes to provide the soundtrack to their latest show at Milan Fashion Week yesterday (17 September).
The show, hosted in-house at Marni’s headquarters, featured a melancholic 15-minute composition by the artist. Hynes performed on one of three pianos in the centre of the room, joined by pianist Adam Tendler and Marni’s Movement Director Sharleen Chidiac.
“For this show, I wrote a piece for three pianos – myself on piano, my friend Adam Tendler on piano, and also Sharleen on piano, who’s actually [Marni’s] Movement Director of the last few years,” he told nss Magazine. Backstage, the publication found him listening to Aphex Twin‘s Syro.
Marni, headed by designer Francesco Risso, has worked with long-time friend Hynes for many years. The artist has scored previous shows including collaborations with Tokyo Chamber Orchestra and The String Orchestra of Brooklyn, and composed music for the brand’s ‘Marni Jam’ presentation earlier this year – a piece performed by dancers and a full marching band led by Erykah Badu.
As well as his work as Blood Orange and as a composer in the fashion world, Devonté Hynes has scored films including Palo Alto, Queen & Slim and Master Gardener.
