Loraine James, Space Afrika, Richie Culver, Gaika and more pencilled in for three-day pioneering art and music event.
Audiophile paradise, Spatial Festival, returns to Berlin next month (September 12-14) for a three day exploration of art and music, taking over the city’s iconic Funkhaus. This year the festival will spill out across the many chambers and rooms of the Funkhaus, unleashing 60 pioneering artists across a programme of live performances, listening sessions and art installations.
The Funkhaus boasts some of the world’s most acoustically refined spaces, from recording halls to monolithic resonance studios. This year’s festival will build on the venue’s remarkable audio heritage with the help of the 4DSOUND system, a holographic sound instrument developed by spatial design studio, MONOM – the result of a decade of artistic and technical research. Rooms will be turned into sonic instruments, aimed at creating the purest sound possible.
Honouring these remarkable acoustic surroundings, the festival will see artists presenting original work across audio and visual. Loraine James, Abyss X and others will present listening sessions, alongside live performances from Gaika, Richie Culver, Evita Manji and more. This year, the festival is also teaming up with Berlin Art Week and curatorial platform PASSAGE for the first time to deliver an ambitious art programme. Curated by Victor Auberjonois and Konrad Biedenkopf, the programme will feature works from a host of international artists including Manchester multidisciplinarians Space Afrika.
