Cassius’ Philippe Zdar dies after falling from building

Philippe Cerboneschi died in Paris on Wednesday, representatives confirm.

French producer Philippe Cerboneschi, better known as Zdar and member of duo Cassius has died after falling from a high-rise building in Paris. He was 50 years old.

“He made an accidental fall, through the window of a high floor of a Parisian building,” Sebastien Farran told France24. No further details were provided.

Cerboneschi formed Cassius with Hubert Blanc-Francard – aka Boom Bass – in 1996, rising to prominence as part of the French touch scene. But Zdar was also a producer in his own right, crafting the sound of a number of artists in the 2000s and 2010s, including Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Cat Power and Franz Ferdinand.

Dreems, Cassius’ latest album, is scheduled for release this Friday, the same day as Hot Chip’s A Bath Full of Ecstasy, which he also produced.
