Charli XCX on SOPHIE: “She changed my life and she changed all of our lives”

In a new interview with Zane Lowe, Charli XCX spoke about SOPHIE’s impact on her music and life.

Charli XCX’s interview with Zane Lowe aired yesterday (17 March), during which she spoke about longtime collaborator and friend SOPHIE. “She changed my life and she changed all of our lives,” the popstar said. “I’ve never met anyone like her and I don’t think I ever will. She can really give you confidence and power. SOPHIE held a lot of power just in the person that she was, let alone the music.”

Charli XCX’s new album, Crash, is out today (18 March) and this week, she took to Twitter to say that it’s dedicated to SOPHIE. Speaking to Zane Lowe, she said, “There have been a few times in this album process where I have thought, oh what would SOPHIE think about this? Or what would SOPHIE tell me to do right now? And the answer always is: SOPHIE would just be like, ‘Do your thing, go for it, push yourself.’”

The interview is available on Apple Music. Take a look back at Charli XCX’s Collections Vol. 3 cover story, and listen to an audio version of the feature below.
