Clairo covers ‘Brooklyn Baby’ by Lana Del Rey

The Issue 157 cover star also shared a new video for her track Juna, which is the first music video for any songs taken from her studio albums to date.

Yesterday (5 August), American songwriter and vocalist Clairo released a cover of Brooklyn Baby by Lana Del Rey, via Spotify Singles. The original version is taken from Lana Del Rey’s third album Ultraviolence, released a decade ago in 2014.

Led by a soft rock guitar riff and Clairo’s distinguishable vocals, the cover continues in the same sonic vein as her newly released album Charm. She spoke to Crack Magazine about the process of making the album and growing up in the limelight in her cover interview for our July Issue 157 interview. Read it here.

On Sunday (4 August), Clairo also released a new music video for the album’s seventh track, Juna. Directed by Bradley J. Calder and shot in an amateur wrestling hall, it’s the singer’s first music video for any tracks from her studio albums to date.

She had previously questioned whether she ever would. Responding to a fan on Instagram who was lamenting the lack of a new music video in 2020, she wrote: “I thought about it for a long time but ended up realising that my perception of songs is always going to be different than what everyone else sees – if I make a visual to a song that people already created their own visuals to, what would I be adding?”

Crack has teamed up with Clairo to offer our Supporters 100 exclusive pins. Find out more here, and listen to her cover of Brooklyn Baby below.
