Former power station, now cultural centre Dampfzentrale Bern, becomes the home of Full of Lava festival this winter, running from 20-23 November. Starting in 2008 as Saint Ghetto and changing its name to Full of Lava in 2023, the festival showcases leftfield and experimental sub-genres of popular music, presenting pop music as a sound that can be thought-provoking, challenge convention, and break away from tradition.
The festival’s line-up brings together artists on the outer edges of pop music. Highlights include Norwegian electronic pop duo Smerz, saxophonist and electroacoustic musician Tapiwa Svosve, and Danish singer, songwriter, and producer Erika de Casier. Margaret Chardiet will bring her solo experimental project, Pharmakon, while Canadian musician Marie Davidson, American organist and composer Kali Malone, and English experimental group These New Puritans join the line-up.
Other highlights include former Crack Magazine cover star John Glacier, eight-piece English collective, caroline, and a variety of late-night DJ sets from New York, i-vye, DJ E aka Chuquimamani-Condori, and Haya33.
