The event takes place on Saturday, 5 September.
Spike Island will celebrate its 50th anniversary next month with a Summer Party featuring live art, performances, DJs, exhibitions and food and drink.
The anniversary marks 50 years since Spike Island began as Artspace Bristol in 1976, established by a group of painters, sculptors and printmakers looking for shared space. It has since developed into a centre for artists and creative production, providing studios as well as hosting exhibitions, commissions and other public programmes.
The event will take over the Bristol arts centre from 5pm on Saturday 5, September until 3am, with programming spread across the building.
Attendees will be able to see Spike Island’s current exhibitions after normal opening hours, as well as performances from Sarahsson, Mary Hurrell and Tohé Commaret & Ariane Kiks, alongside a live art programme guest-produced by Perpetually Stew.
In Sculpture Yard, Bristol’s Noods Radio will also present an evening of DJs.
From 9pm, the gallery will become a dancefloor with a music programme reflecting Spike Island’s spirit of experimentation and collaboration. KEM KEM, also known as Olukemi Lijadu and a former exhibiting artist at Spike Island, will DJ alongside Casa Delirium, Al Cameron and members of the venue’s wider community.
Food will be provided by Bristol chef Anita Cheung, who runs Ah-Ma’s Dumplings and dim sum restaurant CLOUDS. A sit-down meal will be served at Emmeline Café between 5pm and 8pm, followed by dumplings and bao buns available to take away later in the evening.
Left Handed Giant will run a bar in the Sculpture Yard, with wine from Limeburn Hill Vineyard and non-alcoholic drinks from YEW Drinks also available.
Money raised through the Summer Party will go towards Spike Island’s exhibitions and new commissions, as well as supporting free entry and affordable artist studios.
Tickets for the full event, from 5pm to 3am, are £25 for early bird entry, £20 concessions and £30 general admission. Tickets for the evening party, which starts at 9pm, cost £15, with last admission at midnight.
