Members of Tool, Mastodon and OFF! form nautical themed supergroup

Brent Hinds of Mastodon, Dimitri Coates of OFF! and Danny Carey of Tool have formed a band. They’re not just any band, though they’re a nautical themed metal band called Legend of the Seagullmen. The band is a concept which was apparently dreamed up by brothers Frank, Chris and David Dreyer who have been putting on theatrical performances around the theme for a few years. Frank Dreyer explained that the concept is based around a “400,000-year-old story with pirates, sailors, a rock band and mythical sea creatures.”

You can listen to two tracks – The Deep-Sea Diver and Ships Wreck – at the group’s official website now. It’s not yet clear whether the band will play a part in the Dreyer brothers’ ongoing theatrical concept or whether it’s just a one-off. It’s worth noting though that the band’s producer is said to be Horton Hears A Who and Jonah Hex director Jimmy Hayward so it’s possible that the band could even be a completely fictional concept designed entirely for an upcoming production.
