The Toronto Police Service has confirmed that there is an active investigation against Crystal Castles’ Ethan Kath, real name Claudio Palmieri.
Police Constable Allyson Douglas-Cook told The Daily Beast, “At this point we are able to confirm that there is an investigation. However, because of the nature of the investigation, and for the privacy of the alleged victims, there isn’t anything else that we can say pertaining to it.” Cook is unable to confirm whether more victims have come forward, though, according to the publication, “a source with knowledge” said that there has been accusations from “several women”.
One anonymous victim accused Palmieri of initiating a sexual relationship with her when she was 16, and said, “I want this guy’s insane horrible mistreatment of underage girls to be out in the open for everyone to know and to protect themselves.”
In October, former Crystal Castles band member Alice Glass released a statement detailing years of alleged rape and abuse from Palmieri. Glass claims Palmieri was “physically abusive”, “manipulative” and controlled what she did. She stated, “He forced me to have sex with him or, he said, I wouldn’t be allowed to be in the band anymore.”
Palmieri has denied the allegations, and is suing Glass for her account, which he has described as “pure fiction”. After Glass’ performance in Chicago on 17 November, she was served her court summons by someone pretending to be a fan.
