5 Crack alumni to catch at Lovebox

This year’s Lovebox festival is packed with acts we’ve supported over the years.

We’ll be heading down to catch some of our favourite artists play at Victoria Park this weekend. This year’s line-up looks set cater to all tastes with acts as diverse as Nils Frahm and Skepta lighting up the various Lovebox stages. There’s also a healthy selection of extra curricular activities, including a slacklining experience and a plethora of pop-up shops that will surely fill any gaps if the music’s not your thing.

To kickstart your weekend we’ve provided a handy guide to just a handful of the acts playing who’ve graced the pages of our magazine over the last few years.

Action Bronson

Friday

Action Bronson was one of our favourite cover stars ever. His profile shot stood out a mile-off against a shocking blue background.

When he came down to chat to us he also visited our pub The Christmas Steps and, no shit, ordered everything on the menu.

A wild, comedic stage presence coupled with one of the tightest flows in recent times – Action Bronson is one act you’re not going to want to miss this weekend.

Revisit our interview with the heavyweight rapper himself.

Little Dragon

Yukimi Nagano is the eternally individual frontperson of Little Dragon.

As a small child Yukimi loved playing dress-up and she cites notorious style-switchers Prince and Kate Bush as major influences, so getting her in to do our fashion feature was a total no-brainer.

The band have an eternally adventurous spirit that will surely be in full flow on Saturday – definitely one to check out.

Kim Ann Foxman

Saturday

When we first started doing our Aesthetic fashion feature we always had Kim Ann Foxman in mind. As a member of Hercules and Love Affair she brought her brand of New York sass to the foreground with fierce productions and even fiercer vocals.

Since then she’s risen above the hype as a solo artist and proved herself as one of the most unique and interesting DJ / producers on the circuit. She goes back b2b with techno mainstay Heidi on Saturday.

Skepta

We had grime stalwart Skepta on our cover back in February and he’s only gone from strength to strength since then.

His summer banger, Shutdown, has over three million plays on YouTube, and the eighty quid he invested in the That’s Not Me video has converted into almost five million.

While it seems artists are selling out right, left and centre, Skepta and Boy Better Know are staying very much true to their roots – even if Skepta is releasing tracks and appearing onstage with Drake these days.

See what all the fuss is about on Friday night.

Travel back to the beginning of the year when we spoke to Skepta for our cover feature.

Nils Frahm

It takes a pretty special sort of genius to bring contemporary classical to the masses in the same way Nils Frahm has.

His first film score for German film, Victoria, for example, has bagged him a Lola (a German Oscar) and a third of a million listens on Soundcloud. His hugely admired output spans all audiences.

His cult following appreciates his ambition, his love of process over product, and his legendary live shows. Catch one of the latter on the Saturday.

If you missed it, here’s our feature with Frahm from earlier this year.
