Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

There’s an incisive precision to Mama Snake’s craft, which makes sense given that the Copenhagen DJ and label boss is also a qualified surgeon. Very much embedded in her home city’s dance music scene, Mama Snake – real name Sara Svanholm – previously formed part of the since disbanded techno trio Apeiron Crew.

Now, Svanholm heads up multi-disciplinary platform Amniote Editions, with their penchant for hard and euphoric experimental club sounds reflected in an expertly curated output that includes releases from Kris Esfandiari’s NGHTCRWLR alias, Sisilisko (aka Celestial Trax) and D.Dan’s Sidewinder project to mention a few.

For their sets, Mama Snake tends towards fittingly sleek and slithering techno mutations that range from percussive hypnotism to trance-infused, high-energy intensity. Ahead of her appearance at this year’s Dour Festival, taking over the scenic Belgian countryside this July, Mama Snake curates a playlist that reflects the energy she’ll be bringing for her dusk-time set.

“As my set time for this year’s Dour will be from right before sunset until it’s fully dark, the NRG will be the intersection between light and darkness – dusk is such a magical time in summer,” they tell us. “In Denmark, where I’m from, it can sometimes feel like dusk lasts forever because of our long days and short nights. It’s moody and uplifting at the same time, this playlist is a showcase of this. To be played either in the order it’s presented in, but is meant to also work in shuffle mode.”

Mama Snake plays Dour Festival, Belgium on 12-16 July
