Welcome back to Selections, a series of artist-curated playlists from those in the know.

Thessa Torsing is a Dutch DJ and producer who works under a couple of guises: upsammy, most notably, but also Sweepsculp. The Netherlands has proved to be quite the nurturing environment for the artist, who rose to acclaim through a residency at Amsterdam venue De School, as well as releases on labels such as Dekmantel and Nous’klaer Audio. Her 2020 debut album Zoom – shared via the former – was an immediate hit. Subtle, ruminative and full of intriguing left turns, the record saw Torsing exploring natural inspirations with a renewed, more child-like curiosity for her surroundings.

Her Selections playlist, curated in the run-up to a forthcoming show at Spain’s WOS Festival, takes this same tack while also nodding to her club-ready sensibilities and appetite for knotty sound design, restless rhythms and glitchy IDM.

“These are songs for becoming nothing and everything at the same time,” she explains. “They resemble the morphing environments that can also be found in my DJ sets. In this playlist, they often take on a more abstract form.”

upsammy plays WOS Festival, Santiago De Compostella, on 8-11 September
